The School provides a unique opportunity to study first-hand the sites and monuments of Greece, and is also a superb resource for research in fields ranging from antiquity to modern Greece, thanks to its two internationally renowned libraries, archives, excavation study centers, and archaeological science laboratory.
Study at the School
Acceptance of Membership at the School is a prerequisite for students or scholars wishing to make use of the facilities outside normal visiting hours. An application for the approperiate membership category is required.
Two categories of Membership available for study at the School: Associate Membership and Regular Membership. Regular Membership is for participation in the formal academic program (the Regular Member Program). Associate Membership is for students or scholars pursuing independent research for a full year or for a shorter term. If awarded a School fellowship or grant, the awardee will also be granted Associate Membership.
The American School of Classical Studies at Athens has over 25 fellowships available to Graduate students, Post-Doctoral and established scholars. In addition to the Regular Member Program, the School runs six summer programs.

Regular Membership
The program runs the full academic year offering advanced graduate students an intensive survey of the art, archaeology, history, and topography of Greece, from antiquity to the present. Deadline: January 15
Associate Membership
Required to conduct research at the School outside of program offerings. No deadline for Associate Membership, if not applying for a fellowship, but applicants should apply at least 2 weeks prior to arrival at the School.
Summer Session
Open to graduate and advanced undergraduate students, as well as to high school and college instructors of classics and related fields. Deadline: January 10
Summer Seminars
Open to graduate and advanced undergraduate students, as well as to high school and college instructors of classics and related fields. Deadline: January 10
Gennadius Library Summer Session
Open to graduate students and professors in any field of late antique, post-antique, Byzantine, or medieval studies from any university worldwide. Deadline: January 2021
Wiener Lab Field School
Open to all graduate students. Preference is given to advanced students and post-docs with a background in archaeology, and preferably some exposure to the natural sciences as well.
Volunteer at Agora Excavations
Open to undergraduates, though priority is given to graduate students preparing for professional careers in classical archaeology and those willing to work the entire summer excavation season.
Archaeological Conservation Summer Internships
Applicants must currently be enrolled in a graduate or equivalent conservation program or they must have recently completed their studies in conservation.

Recommendations are due on the same date as the deadline for applications, unless otherwise noted. Once an online application is submitted, recommenders will be sent an automated email with instructions about how to submit their letters of recommendation. Recommenders will be asked to upload their letters via the online application system, Submittable. It is also acceptable for recommenders to submit letters directly to the this email address: application@ascsa.org. It is preferable for recommenders to submit their letters following the instructions in the automated email. All recommendations are confidential and will not be shared with an applicant.
